The location
The Domaine de la Bastide is located in the Rhône Valley, 9 miles from Avignon, in a little village called Visan.
The history of the vineyards is closely connected to the knight Templars, who developed wine growing in the
“Enclave des Papes” (papal enclave). During the 14th Century, the Popes settled in Avignon and extended their
domain. The “Enclave” enclosed 4 towns, Visan being one of them
Built on a Roman Village, the Bastide was a fortified farm run by the Templars, until the French revolution. It has
now regained its place in the viticultural tradition of Visan with the dedication and passion of the Boyer family
who produces handcrafted wines.
Philosophy
The Boyer family is a farmer family for more than 500 years in the town of Visan. So traditions and old stones are
very important for them. They know that they are lucky to have their vineyards and that their family worked hard
before them, so they try to preserve their soil and their history.
Bernard and Nicole Boyer have both been brought up in families with long records in wine making. Vincent, their
younger son, also graduated in agricultural engineering is now applying his skills on the estate and wine-making
process. State of the art technology along with a long standing viticultural tradition serves the making of these
distinctive wines.
Soon Vincent will begin an organic certification shortly as he already produces wines in an organic way.
